Mmmm, it's my first full day off in ages. It feels fucking amazing - I slept in until 11, I have time to do a full yet leisurely cleaning of my apartment and I have a party tonight where I can stay late because I don't have class until 12:30 tomorrow. It really is the perfect day.
Hamlet's been going awesomely. Well, the last show I was able to attend Friday night had some technical issues, but only one of them was obvious to the outside observer...the rest of us were just cringing in our seats lol. I brought my parents that night and I think they liked it. Well, my mom liked what she could understand and my dad liked it because of the technical elements. I think Chuck was more able to appreciate both the tech and how the story was altered. The opening night party was fucking killer. We went to the Phoenix, drank lots of beer, had Dr. Cockett order us like twenty platters of apps and there was an ongoing foosball tournament going on. It was great because Dr. Cockett was playing foosball as The Clash's "London Calling" was playing - I haven't been witness to anything so British in a long time. I was able to stay until around 1, stayed awake in drunkeness until about 3 and somehow still had an awesome sleep that seemed to stretch on forever and was in a very good mood the next day. That's just good luck.
Lunch break is over, time to keep cleaning. I find that in the Robinson St. apartment it was easier to let things be messy because it was all stretched out over four rooms. In this place though, I'm more compelled to keep it tidy because it's all there for me to see. If I leave even a few things out and about it starts to look bad. I think this is a good thing - it keeps me motivated. I still need to get rid of some of my stuff though...it feels a bit crowded in here at times. Plus I think I just need it in a weird spiritual way, unburdening my life and all that crap. I'm starting to make physical changes to my life and it's helping with everything else.
Now i must away - a pile of discarded clothes beckons.

| Meeting New People |
[Nov 12th, 12:20pm] |
Further to this post from earlier in the year where some of us wanted to make local friends to go out for drinks (or what have you) and from occasional OT conversations that I have had with some scifi fans-in-hiding on this com (under a previous user name) ...
If you are interested in attending a fun afternoon/evening on Sat. Sept November 21 that combines both of the above, post here and I will send you the details. There will be drinks, appetizers, dessert, movies and other shenanigans for your entertainment. Right here in Hamilton.
Let me suggest though, if you are the kind of person who is belligerent when drinking (or sober), this probably isn’t for you. If you can play nice in the sandbox, then rock on. Also, getting together is for fun and friendship not specifically dating (I hesitate to even say it but if that’s your intent, please at least be subtle about it).
Once again, post if you have any interest and I will PM the details via LJ.

Stressstressstress. Essay due tomorrow that need some editing and inserting of quotes, essay due Wednesday that I have ideas and a vague outline and about half of my quotes for but I haven't written a damn sentence. Because of the TA strike, my prof is allowing extensions (because it's not like there's anybody to mark the essays now, so there's no hurry) but if possible I'd like to be able to get it in on time. Hamlet's Dorm starts this week and I want to be able to show up and watch it without writing essays in my head the whole time.
Speaking of Hamlet's Dorm, it looks fucking badass so far, and they still have kinks to work out with the tech. So, once it's all done it should look amazing. I'll admit we've done some strange post-modern conceptual work with it, but I feel like in terms of the dialogue all of the cutting (we've gotten a 4-hour script down to a 75 minute play) has really helped to pinpoint the important moments. Plus the post-modern stuff we've done, like animated gravediggers and grave-beds - yes, we use hydraulics to make a bed a grave - only add to the experience. Hamlet is a severly fucked up play, after all, we've just visualized how messed it is. The costumes are almost completely done now, too, a.k.a. my work is done. I have a slight alteration to make to a skirt because I had to convert them from pants. Now the actress has a crotch and ass bump where the crotch seam wasn't entirely straightened. To be fair, it looks hilarious but I'm sure Dr. Cockett doesn't want people concentrating on Amanda's crotch bump during the show :P
It's strange working behind the scenes on a show. I'm used to casting it up, and there's an energy that I'm missing a little bit. Don't get me wrong, the crew has still been hanging out with the actors and we all get along great, but I can't connect with them the way I would if I were part of them. Of course, that's to be expected but I do miss it. Thank god my costume ladies are fantastic - well, the whole class in general has been fantastic. I love that our conceptual meetings and construction times always seem to dissolve into Disney and Broadway singalongs, and that no matter who I'm talking to I can get hugs and snuggles when I'm feeling stressed. The class overall has been very loving and hilarous...this is sort of the culmination of our graduating class that I've been waiting for all along. So, even though I'm not acting it up this year, I know that I always have something to contribute to and great people to contribute with. Plus this means I have more opportunity and run off and concentrate on other classes....except for now. I've nearly forgotten that I HAVE other classes, which sucks. This semester's marks will probably not be too great but at least I've (generally) had a blast.
There's really nothing else happening in my life right now. The people that I see the most are on campus, and the rest of the time I'm trying to write or sleep in order to stay healthy. I keep getting little hints of a cold that never accumulate to anything. I had a couple of days of flu-ness, but since then I'll have a sore throat for a couple of hours, or I'll get sniffly at night...nothing more than that. Let's hope nothing more than that. I don't wants ta gets the swine.
Alright, time to buckle down and try to do some work on my paper. I find myself gravitating to the whole "women's rights" topic a lot. Not because I necessarily agree with any of it or I find it interesting (although sometimes I do). I think I just do it because texts are rife with it and it's easier to develop an agreeable thesis. Humanities profs love feminism. My laziness has degenerated me into a faux feminist...ugh...if only I started early so I can fully develop something more challenging. Like writing form, or allegory. Or robots. That's it, my next essay is about robots. Take that, 18th century English literature, I'll show you the wave of the future.

| the Darkfall story |
[Nov 8th, 7:33pm] |
So, it was about two in the morning and I was reading this horror novel (review):

Imagine my surprise when I turned the page and found this:

Kind of creeped me out. And further on there was this:

What?

It was only sort of explained in the note I found:

| Selling textbooks? |
[Nov 4th, 10:42pm] |
I'm wondering if anyone knows a place that will buy (fairly new, mostly used) textbooks for decent prices. I have a bunch of the textbooks from Mohawk's General Arts & Science program that I really don't need. Some of them are still shrink-wrapped (I obviously cared so much about psychology). I'd prefer downtown/Westdale/Dundas but at this point as long as someone is willing to pay me for them I am happy.
Alternately, if anyone's starting in that program any time soon, I have textbooks in great condition for sale!

Anyone know of any novels or stories that are set in Hamilton? I'm looking for fiction but literary non-fiction would be ok too.
Thanks!
